I HATE the Lakers. Here's why:
1. They've won the most games in NBA history
2. They've beaten the teams I've liked a lot in recent years. (The Kings, Mavericks, Spurs, Nets)

I say this not cause they seem to be struggling with the bulls, They went to 7 games in all 3 rounds of the playoffs last year so they are right on track from last year. This year though people have their number and they are banged up a bit like the lakers were.

When the Los Angeles Lakers season tipped off, the Odom Meter was running low as all eyes were on Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. The casual fan and longtime basketball experts were curious to know whether the two 7-footers can co-exist when paired in the post in Phil Jackson’s triangle offense. That meant Odom was relegated to the bench, a move he openly accepted but with some reluctance. Trade rumors started flying around Staples Center.

It is only fitting that the maiden voyage of this blog be the same day as a marquee matchup, the Lakers against the Cavs. It is a homegame for the Lakeshow, but the Lakers have lost two straight. This is a big game. A victory will make their prior two losses meaningless, but a loss could send them into a Celtics-esque tailspin. The

Kobe Bryant is not the Lakers' most valuable player this season. What? Yup, sounds utterly ridiculous but it's true. Bryant may be the best player on earth, but the title of Lakers MVP belongs to Pau Gasol. As good as Kobe Bryant is (and he's very, very good), the game is still played inside-out. NBA championships are won with the big guys in the paint, not with the guys who make the "pretty" plays.

Before we crown the Lakers world champs for the 2008-09 season, let's taper down the myopia and look at this team from an unbiased viewpoint. The Detroit Pistons sent the Lakers back to reality after easily winning at Staples Center on Friday, Nov. 14. I discovered three things from that game.

Gasol told Yahoo! Sports: “Some of us didn’t feel comfortable doing it just because to me it was a little clownish for our part to be doing that. But the sponsors insisted and insisted. I think it is just a bad idea I guess to do that, but it was never intended to be offensive or racist against anybody.

One word describes the performance I witnessed last night for Game 6 of the Lakers and Celtics....UNREAL. I couldn't believe my eyes as the second quarter unraveled into a murderous slaughter dealt by the hands of the Boston Celtics. There are many things I could say to defend the Laker massacre last night, but none of them would justify the loss the were handed. Yes, the referees turned a blind eye to some fouls. Yes, the Celtics played a little more physically than the league allows. Yes, the environment was loud and distracting. But where was the Laker passion I had seen so many games before? Where was the spark that fueled the fire of their triumphant victories? Where was the aggression and pure dominance I had seen attached to their performance in the first series? Where were the

I'm tired of all these sports analysts who are still unable to give the Lakers credit for being as far along as they are now. They are still saying the Lakers didn't belong in the finals, that it was an improbable run they made to the playoffs. I can't believe there are that many Laker haters in the professional industry. What is it about them that makes people not recognize them as a championship caliber team? What do they have to do to prove to people they got where they are from their sheer talent and abilities?

Are they Lakers finished? Is there any way for them to come back from this? Can they dig themselves out of this hole that they dug? Can they come back from a 3-1 deficit? Or is it all over for our golden team? These are some of the questions I mulled over the days that followed Game 4. I have complete faith that the

I could easily say the Lakers struggled last night in Boston, again. But this couldn't be much further from the truth. I know people use the excuse of referee favoring, but anyone who watched this game could point out the strict favoritism shown by the referees. I don't know if the association doesn't want Kobe to win another championship, or if they just want to make the series interesting, but I need a little more cooperation out of our "black-and-whites".

Leon Powe just beat the Lakers.
Leon Powe. Yup. That Leon Powe.
Leon F. Powe (the F stands for something that rhymes with "ducking") was the difference in Game 2 and is the reason why the Celtics are up 2-0 in the series.

Well, after a week of waiting the NBA finals are here. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are set to play each other for the 11th time in the finals. These are the two most historic teams in the NBA, a combined 30 titles between the two. There are many storylines in the NBA finals. Paul Pierce returns to Los Angeles. Ray Allen against Kobe Bryant. East coast vs West Coast. Magic vs. Bird. This is one of the most anticipated finals in recent memory. All the angles have been beaten to death, except one thing that has not been talked about is the layoff from when each team closed off their series to the start of this series.

Game four started off great for the Lakers who came out firing, showing that this was going to be nothing like game three. The Lakers combined crisp passing with hitting the open jumpers to crashing the offensive glass to playing some tough Defense to amass a 14-point lead. This was shaping up to be a blow out but this is the playoffs and the Spurs were at home and they weren’t having it. As was expected, the Spurs made a run to tie it up just before the half but the

After the Lakers' unbelievable 89-85 comeback victory in Game 1, a few thoughts ran across my mind.
One, the San Antonio Spurs cannot guard Kobe Bryant. Never had. Never will. Kobe was absolutely right when he said, "I can get off any time I want" (he meant basketball term "getting off"). Once Kobe finally escaped the bermuda triangle he was on in the first half, the league's MVP took control of the game.

OK, Lakers, doin' good -- just don't spot the Spurs 20 pts. next outing, and you'll be fine. Those tough cowpokes may be old, but don't tempt fate with a 1st half rope-a-dope again.
Get yer young guns blazin' earlier, and take care of this classic Western Conference Finals business at the OK (as in Odom/Kobe, w/plenty of Pau power) Corral. This is the match-up I predicted, though New Orleans made it interesting.

The Lakers-Jazz series went six games but I never felt the Jazz really threatened the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals.
The Jazz are a nice team but they lack a true superstar. They don't have a player who Shaquille O'Neal calls "assassins." Utah has borderline all-stars in Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, but it doesn't have a player who can single-handedly destroy an opponent's gameplan. A player who can put a team on his shoulders on offense and carry them to victory. A player like Kobe Bryant.

If you read my last post you could almost see last nights horrific display beforehand. What happened to the defensive intensity we have showed for long stretched this season? It was completely non-existent. None of our guards are capable of staying in front of anybody right now, not even Kobe. To make matters worse we have no real shot blocking presence in the middle. Don't get me wrong Ronny is playing amazing, but he is a better shot blocker on the ball. Both Andrew and Mihm are much better help side blockers.

The Lakers' regular season has had so many turns it mirrors the insanely entertaining Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland.

I really couldn't have asked for more from the two game mini-series with the Warriors. Being as all three of our real centers are hurt we were forced to play small ball with them both games. Obviously this led to very exciting matchups. Here are a few of my observations:Lamar Is a Beast: If only he could play the Warriors or Suns every day. Being clearly the most talented big man on the court Lamar owned the Warriors. Posting back to back 20 rebound games was amazing, as was playing all 53 minutes of game two. Don't forget how well he played aginst Amare during both of our post-season matchups. It will be interesting to see how they play against each other if we meet them in the playoffs this year. It is becoming ever less likely that Lamar, Bynum, and Gasol will all be on the same court this year so it will be necessary for Lamar to keep up this effort with Gasol back as Gasol lacks and strong inside force.

He took 25 shots mostly against first-rate defender Raja Bell and made 16 of them in the Lakers' 130-124 victory over the Suns. Taking 25 shots in a game is nothing new to Kobe. He can take shot 25 shots in his sleep. But Wednesday night against the Suns, Kobe's shot selection was perfect. It seemed like all his FGAs were good looks and were well within the framework of the offense.

Lakers officials are not publicly saying it but trading for Pau Gasol signaled three things: 1) Kwame Brown was unable to shake off the public criticisms and desperately needed a new address, 2) Kobe Bryant finally got his wish and having an All-Star sidekick means he'll remain a Laker for life, and 3) Andrew Bynum's knee injury is a lot more serious than what the team is revealing.

Poor, sensitive Lakers. Poor multi-million dollar, crybaby Kobe. The Lakers organization seemed to feel hurt last nite by their beloved fans. After all, a good fan goes to all the games pumped and ready to do whatever it takes for the team (right Kobe?). After all, we the people, are only to be pleased with every performance that our team gives us and not complain (aint that right Kobe?). We the people need to pay hundreds of dollars for good seats but should be expected to be polite as well (aint that right Kobe). Or should we just play it cool and keep our mouths zipped and "stay at home", like Kobe suggests. Yes, we

My prediction for the Lakers- they will suck again (for eight weeks). The Lakers will fumble, crack, and stumble through some tough games and become the Lakers of old (2007). This is because their main man (not Kobe) is missing. Mr. Andrew Bynum. Kwame Brown is no substitute for the young Bynum and we have the numbers from yesterday's game against Phoenix to prove it. Kwame had more turn overs than points, and the fans booed him on home turf for the first time in
